Ruth Barrett and Cyntia Smith are internationally known fretted dulcimer artists and vocalists whose original music is inspired by myth, folklore, ancient symbolism, and the celebration of Nature.  Their performances also include love songs, unique instrumental pieces and traditional folk music of the British Isles.
Ruth & Cyntia have taken the fretted dulcimer, a traditional instrument from the Appalachian Mountains, and transformed it into a contemporary medium for their new acoustic music.  Their classical fingerpicking style, combined with powerful and beautiful vocals, creates an enchanting tapestry that envelops their audiences.

Performing together since 1979, Ruth and Cyntia have recorded and co-produced five critically acclaimed albums on their own record label, Aeolus Music.  They have performed nationally at folk festivals, clubs, universities, and on radio and television.
Both Ruth and Cyntia are seasoned dulcimer teachers in Southern California and across the nation.  In addition to touring and recording, Cyntia is an accomplished inlay artist who assists instrument maker Dale E. Foye in building handmade classical dulcimers. Ruth is a creative director of a Los Angeles women's spirituality organization, and travels nationally to lead workshops.
